The Kingdom
The Thaï kings are respected and revered like gods. Present king is Poumipone (this is a phonetic and approximate translation, I want to apologize for that). In the Rama lineage, Poumipone comes ninth. His photo can be seen everywhere, in every shop, even in private people's home, on calendars, pictures, drawings... You will see as well his grand-uncle who used to be Rama IV also on photos everywhere. A Rama V statue stands in the Lumpini park corner (facing Silom road). If you visit the Grand Palace at the right time you may watch the Changing of the Guards.
