Thaï people are good at odd jobs and reprocess almost everything.
On a visit in the area of the secondhand dealers of car spare parts (whose headquarter
is surnamed as the Wat Sonkaew temple) this is what I saw. Actually the
Wat Sonkaew temple is the thaï counterpart of Emmaüs. It stands
somewhere on Nonthaburi road. To reach overthere ask for the help of
a Thaï inmate. In this wat you can choose freely among cars, clothes,
fridges, computers and the like... There I bought a computer for my father,
namely an abacus, costing 150 baths. In the pick-up which brought me back to
Bangkok I took a closer look at it ; then a Thaï guy came to my help and
advised me how to use it.

| Between the Tokyu tower and the station downtown central
Bangkok is the car-breaking and scrapping area. If you happen to have a
Japanese car you will be in the heaven here ; as usual the hearty, helpful
Thaï will be willing to come at your rescue. Should you need anything
the store doesnot have on stock, a guy would jump on his motor-bike and
10 minutes later you already take hold of the missing spare part. |

| No Sir, I won't rescue anything on this car!! It is the car of the Wat
sonkaew mechanic. |
Here is the actual proof that there used to be European cars in Thaïland
(Volvo, Lancia and even our famous Renault 12) but that time is well over
now and the Japanese and Koreans have swallowed 99,99% of the market. |
The Wat Sonkaew parishioners offer the priests everything: even
this ancient Renault 10, still in good repair... |

|
| Once you have bought your car, come here for the parts and maintenance. |
further on: flowers and odd articles... |
computers, screens and spare parts. |
|
|
|
|
| Fridges, deep freezers and washing machines. |
If you want to fill your fridge this is the fruit and vegetables' street,
all on the same spot... isn't it cleverly arranged?) |
TV sets (some of which date back to the days when there was no TV). For
the specialists I happened to find a TV tuner with rotactor and ecc82 bulbs. |

|
| What about the hi-fi quarter? Anyway this is a beautiful
grammophone with a pavilion. If you look more closely in the shop window
you will see an issue of a French newspaper dating back 1895. By that time
the king of Thaïland came to Europe and is supposed to have visited
France and Italy.. |
A few worn out tyres?.. a cutter + a pot of paint + a Thaï
inmate = a beautiful armchair. |
Do you need cheap shoes that will survive walking a 100.000
miles ? go to Wat sonkaew. |

|
|
|
| Isn't this the Mac Gyver style? a flat bike, a water pump and there you
are with a pump that will work without power... |
wook, furniture and old rags. |
wires of all kind and odd articles. |
 |
 |
 |
| Thermic lawn-mower |
Electric lawn-mower |
Some decoration for my lounge |
 |
 |
 |
| Who told that money means happiness? |
Some piece of polystyrene, an electrical motor and an accumulator and
there you are with the most beautiful radiomonitored ships. |
Beautiful and fresh but too heavy for the tourist. |

Awful, isn't it? |
